Celebrating Black History

Feb. 4, 2022

BHM_main

Dear Students,

This month we lift up and celebrate the past and current contributions of our African American community members. In communities across the country there will be numerous virtual and in-person events for us to participate and learn.

Many in our campus community are eager for reconnection. With this in mind, the focus of Black History Month 2022 is on student connection and community building. Find the complete event list at the following website.

When you have a moment to pass through the East Plaza of Nelson Hall, you will notice a new honorary installation, “Legacy of Black Excellence.” The display was a collaborative effort by the student intern team out of the Poole Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Office. The inspiration behind the timeline was the NC State University Library Historical State Timelines project. There are many outstanding contributions of our black community members, since our first economic graduate in 1968, that elevate the positive impacts to our broader community.

Finally, if you have not had an opportunity to read the statement provided by our Chancellor and university leadership, I encourage you to do so. As a college, we will continue to stay committed to building an environment that we are all truly proud to belong.

Please feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions or concerns.

Best-

Frank Buckless
